And so it begins...........................................

Well life has been a little crazy around here lately.

With everything else that's going on, we've decided that we are ready to add on to our family. We are using Petfinder to find a dog. We have some important stipulations for our new pet. He/she must be okay with cats, get along well with children, be house trained (unless they're a puppy) and be okay with being crated. I found the most perfect dog, a black and white Basset named Russel. On paper he was perfect, and probably he really was because he was gone before we could even talk to anyone about him. This dog here is currently named Sid. On paper he sounds great- he's good w/ kids, crate trained, house trained and gets a long with cats. As a labrador/pointer mix, he may be just a little more than we can handle. Shawn and I are off to see him tomorrow morning and we'll update you from there. (We did make the great decision not to let the girls meet any dog until we were pretty sure that they were "the one", you guys reading the blog should be old enough to handle if sid is not "the one" BTW- as a side note, several years ago the girls realized that everyone had a chance to name someone in our family except Lily. Our response was that she would name the dog. So, currently our new dog will be renamed, Mina. We'll see how that goes, but I do like the name Mina better than Sid. We'll update you more tomorrow.

Facts about Sid: Sid is a 60 pound, one year old (born 9/6/07), black Lab / Pointer mix. He is housetrained and very well behaved! Sid knows many tricks and commands such as come, sit, down, speak, shake, stay, and wait for a treat on his nose. He fetches balls in the air, sleeps on his back under the covers with his feet in the air, and really enjoys spending time with his human family. Adopt Sid, and you will get a great house-trained companion who will give you such comic relief! He is good with other dogs and respectful of cats.

Good luck- just remember one VERY important thing about Labs. They stay "puppies" for YEARS!!!!!! Jumping, niping, excitement, etc...you are braver than I!

This one didn't jump, nip or bark. He gets a long great with other dogs (important for when we walk with Parker, Ranger and friends :)). And seems to do well with cats. He's on the big side and pulls enough on his leash that the girls couldn't walk him, but overall seems like a great dog. We'll go out next week with the kids and see how they do with him. We're not ready to say yes, next weekend will push it closer to yes or a definite no.
